At New River Family Wellness, we believe a healthy community is one that works together to address the health needs of the people living in it. We’ve compiled a list of community resources below to help patients identify places they can find help meeting a variety of needs. Ashe County Partnership for Children
Founded in 1995 to administer the Smart Start grant in Ashe County, the Ashe County Partnership for Children has since expanded to include a domestic violence and sexual assault prevention and awareness program as well as enhanced family support programs to offer more support to families with children. Ashe Food Pantry
The Ashe Food Pantry was established in 1983 to address hunger in the community. They now store and distribute food to those in need, including insecure children and aging seniors, from their location at 115 Colvard Street, Jefferson, NC 28640. They also offer initiatives to encourage improved health and offer seminars on financial management, cooking, healthcare, and many other topics. Ashe Medication Assistance Program
Ashe county residents who are uninsured or have a low household income can use this service to obtain assistance in finding and applying for pharmaceutical company prescription assistance programs. This is a state sponsored program with additional funding from the Ashe County Government, Ashe Memorial Hospital, the Duke Endowment, and the NC Office of Rural Health. They are located at 225 Court Street, Jefferson NC and can be reached at 336-846-6001. Hours are 10:00-2:00 weekdays and by appointment.
Ashe Outreach Ministries
Feeding more than 2,000 people each month, Ashe Outreach Ministries works to eliminate food insecurity by providing individuals with the food, fellowship, and love they need. They are located at 11719 NC Highway 88 West, Creston, NC 28615 and can be reached at 336-385-1314 or their Facebook Page.
Ashe Really Cares
Ashe Really Cares' mission is to provide a ministry to those who are in need, by supplying or assisting them with their physical and spiritual need. They are located at 204 Beaver Creek School Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694 and can be reached at 336-846-5234 or at their website.
Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission
The Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission serves to advocate within the community to seek out, identify, and eliminate poverty. Located on Old Warrensville School Road in Warrensville, NC 28693, they can be contacted at 336-384-4543 or at their website. Some of the programs managed by the commission include:
