Insurance Options

At New River Family Wellness, we always recommend that patients have insurance coverage for when they have unexpected emergencies, are admitted to the hospital, need imaging, or require referrals to specialists. Memberships at NRFW are not insurance and do not cover these expenses. Unfortunately, insurance policies aren’t affordable for many people; that’s why we keep the cost of our memberships low and offer steep discounts on labs and medications. With us, even patients with insurance from their employer save when comparing to what they’d spend with their deductibles elsewhere. Our memberships are not insurance.

Patients interested in obtaining health insurance have a multitude of options and while we can’t endorse a particular policy, we have compiled a list of ideas below for where you might look.

  • Consider joining a Health Sharing Organization which provides individuals and families with an affordable way to share medical expenses by pooling resources among many people without the overhead of an insurance company. There are several Health Sharing Organizations that assist individuals with their Direct Primary Care memberships through either direct reimbursement or program discounts. Some of these include Sedera Health, Liberty HealthShare, Samaritan Ministries, Zion Health, and Medi-Share. This list may not be exhaustive and each organization will have it’s own procedures which you’ll usually find in the program guidelines. In general, membership in a Health Sharing Organization is much more affordable than traditional insurance, with similar coverage

  • Check out Healthcare.gov to find local insurance policies, determine if you qualify for subsidies, and compare traditional policies with high deductible, catastrophic plans which offer significant savings up front with lower monthly premiums

  • Talk to your Human Resources Department about what your employer offers and how you might be able to reduce premiums

  • Talk to an insurance broker if you need help, but be cautious as they frequently receive incentives for selling particular policies

Please note that you should carefully weigh your individual options and consider your financial situation, medical needs, relevant tax and legal ramifications, and risk tolerance before enrolling in a form of insurance coverage. We do not endorse any particular carrier or purport to guarantee acceptance, costs, or benefits to enrollees. Our practice does not contract with, bill, or otherwise interact with any insurance carrier, and our membership is not an insurance policy.
